The Bandarawela Police launched investigations into the incident which occurred on September 20. However, Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that it was later decided to hand over the investigations to the Police Special Investigations Unit.
According to the Police Media Spokesperson, the presence of police officer of the Bandarawela Police Station at the scene of the incident has led the Police Headquarters to arrive at this decision.
He further said that those responsible will be brought to justice irrespective of their status.
