Jumbo attack kills one in Polpithigama

A 54-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Thambuluwa area in Polpithigama, this afternoon (23). Ada Derana reporter said that the elephant was trapped and it had attacked the woman soon after a group of people rescued it from a well.

The elephant was rescued by the officials attached to the Polpithigama Pradeshiya Sabha and Polpithigama police.

“The woman has come to the place to watch that the elephant is being rescued. The wild jumbo has attacked the woman soon after it came out of the well, and fled to the jungle,” the reporter said.

The deceased has been identified as mother to three children and a resident of the same area. The remains of her body is currently placed at the Polpithigama Base hospital.
