The police today arrested the Chairman of Haldummulla Pradeshiya Sabha R.M. Danarathna and four other UPFA supports over their alleged involvement in the assaulting incident of PS member Nimal Karunaratne (UNP).
The suspects were enlarged on bail after produced before the Haldummulla Magistrate. The case will be taken up for hearing on 2 October.
Nimal Karunaratne was hospitalized after being allegedly assaulted by the group of UPFA supporters on Sunday (21) morning.
In his complaint to the police, Karunaratne has said that he was assaulted by the group accompanied by Chairman of the Haldummulla Pradeshiya Sabha.
The victim was admitted to the Haldummulla District hospital with stab wounds according to the police. The victim was attacked by the group in front of his resident in Haldummulla at around 5.10 a.m.
