According to sources, discussions have been held with the UNP leadership for Democratic National Alliance (DNA) MP Tiran Alles to join the UNP. Alles is the owner of a newspaper publishing company in Sri Lanka. He acts independent of the DNA for some time.
Sources say that Tiran Alles will be appointed as the electoral organizer of Borella in Colombo district.
Meanwhile, sources say that former Western Provincial Councilor of the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Waruna Deeptha Rajapaksa has also held discussions to join the UNP. He is slated to contest future general election from Gampaha district. Waruna Deeptha Rajapaksa broke away from the JVP with the Frontline Socialist Party and later resigned from it. He was an activist of the First Front launched recently.
