During the meeting with President Abbas, President Rajapaksa officially handed over Sri Lanka's US$1 million donation to Palestine.
The Sri Lankan President last month expressing concern for the violence in Gaza announced that Sri Lanka will provide US$ 1 million in financial assistance to Palestine.
President Rajapaksa has been a long-time supporter of the Palestinian cause and is the Founder President of the Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine.
During his first visit to Palestine in January of this year, President Rajapaksa opened the Mahinda Rajapaksa Vocational Training Centre, funded by the Government of Sri Lanka.
