Sri Lanka police Tuesday arrested a ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) politician alleged of attacking an opposition United National Party local council member in Badulla district.
The police arrested the Chairman of Haldummulla Pradeshiya Sabha R.M. Danarathna and four other UPFA supporters for an attack on the UNP Pradeshiya Sabha member Nimal Karunaratne.
Karunaratne was stabbed by the chief suspect Danarathna and others in early morning on Sunday (21) in front of his resident in Haldummulla.
He was admitted to the Haldummulla District hospital with stab wounds according to the police hospitalized with stab wounds.
The suspects were released on bail after they were produced before the Haldummulla Magistrate.
The case will be taken up for hearing on 2 October.
